September 24, 2017 Visa Policy Update

On September 24, the United States announced restrictions on new visa applications in eight countries. The new restrictions apply to new visa applications in Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. The new restrictions do not apply to anyone with an existing visa that allows them to travel to and apply for entry in the United States. No existing visas will be revoked.

The restrictions are in effect as of 3:30pm ET on September 24, 2017 for Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen. The restrictions will take effect for Chad, North Korea, and Venezuela on October 18, 2017. The visa category and type of visa applicant that may be affected as well as the exemptions available vary by country.
