Bay Area native Danny Barrett adores his hometown.

For this ever-active rugby star, San Francisco is “limitless.”

Danny Barrett has long been a force on the pitch. The youngest of three rugby-playing Barretts, Danny continued the family legacy at the University of California, where his unusual combination of strength and speed helped Cal capture their first-ever Collegiate Rugby Championship. He toured New Zealand as a Collegiate All-American, before joining the US National team in 2014. Ever since, Barrett has been an impactful and popular member of the Eagles’ squad. When Rugby sevens made its debut at the Rio Olympics, Danny was a key piece of Team USA. The loose forward continues to star on the pitch, making his family, his city, and his country very proud.

For an active guy like Danny, the Bay Area is heaven. As he puts it, “San Francisco is a city built to be outside.” Whether you’re running the steps, biking the hills, or surfing the waves, you’re never without a scenic reward. He recommends strolling among the towering red woods of Muir Woods, or hiking your way to the stunning views of the Marin Headlands. Danny also admires San Francisco’s many distinct neighborhoods, all offering their own unique flavors and experiences. To get a scenic tour of this eclectic city, he suggests hopping on one of the iconic cable cars. It will take you to must-see destinations like Fisherman’s Wharf, where you’re advised to fill up on fresh seafood and Ghiradelli’s chocolate. And of course, you can’t miss the beautiful Painted Ladies of Alamo Square—colorful row houses whose famous facades are unmistakable. But be warned: if you take too much of Danny’s advice, you’re bounded to fall for this city just as hard as he has.
