Sports are a significant part of Missouri’s culture, thanks to championship-winning professional teams, universities that excel in college athletics and world-class golf.

As the home to the 2015 World Series Champion Kansas City Royals and the 11-time World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, Missouri clearly is a baseball state.

Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium beautifully blends the city’s love of fountains with baseball, while Busch Stadium in St. Louis offers striking views of the iconic Gateway Arch, making every game a must-see event. On Saturdays and Sundays in the autumn, Missouri’s attention turns to football. The University of Missouri Tigers are the defending SEC East champions and always in the hunt for a title. At the professional level, there’s no place like Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, one of the NFL’s loudest venues and home to the Kansas City Chiefs. If hockey is your thing, you’re in luck. The St. Louis Blues are perennial powers in the NHL’s Western Conference. Make plans to visit the Blues’ home at Scottrade Center when the Chicago Blackhawks are in town. It’s a fierce rivalry known for memorable games. More sports action comes to Missouri each spring with the Bass Pro Legends of Golf Tournament at Big Cedar Lodge, near Branson, one of the state’s top travel destinations. The tournament, which began in 2014, includes play at the you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it Top of the Rock course, the only par 3 course to be used in an official PGA tournament event. Golf legends from around the world, including Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player, have made the event part of their spring schedules. Of course, these are just some of the ways to have a sports experience in Missouri. For example, you can tour the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City to learn more about legendary players who didn’t get the opportunity to play in the major leagues, while a visit to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in Springfield lets you take a deep dive into Show-Me State sports. When it’s game time, Missouri is your go-to destination. Learn more about sports-themed attractions and events in Missouri at VisitMO.com.
