Calma reveals the best place to discover talent on the island, and why authenticity is key.
What about the city inspires you and your music?
When I’m in nature, in solitude, is where I’m most inspired. A few of my favorite things about San Juan are the ocean, the Caribbean sunsets, the moon’s reflection on the beach— but I could just go on. The streets of Old San Juan are full of history and mystery, just knowing that pirates used to roam around seems otherworldly. I’m also inspired by all the constant art and music that comes out of such a small but magical place.

I take inspiration from my multicultural upbringing, making sense of all those influences and remaining authentic. I feel remaining authentic is key to creating a connection.

What do you love about San Juan, and why?
San Juan is an upbeat city always filled with festivities and music. Our biggest exports are the arts, and you're only 30 minutes to 3 hours away from rainforests, some of the best beaches in the world, caves, rivers, beautiful mountains and countryside. It’s being in the city while living surrounded by paradise.
