Atlanta is a great example of the New South.
It's a cultural melting pot of diverse shopping districts, landmark restaurants and emerging chefs. It’s both cosmopolitan city and charming Southern town, with dynamic neighborhoods that offer first-rate shopping and dining experiences.
Exemplary Shopping Opportunities
The shopping in Buckhead is legendary, with absolutely decadent shopping at Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square. At Phipps Plaza, you’ll find all the latest trends from Armani, Versace, Jimmy Choo and many more. At Lenox Square Mall, explore more than 200 boutiques, including Apple, Bulgari and Louis Vuitton. Known as the “Beverly Hills of the East Coast,” Buckhead is also home to gracious homes, elegant hotels and some of the city’s best restaurants. Shopping in Atlanta is spread out across numerous districts, but don’t worry – you can easily get from place to place for an uninterrupted shop-fest. Each neighborhood has a different vibe. Little Five Points, a bohemian and hip neighborhood in the Eastern part of Atlanta, has a real underground culture.
Celebrity Chefs and the Dynamic Culinary Scene
Atlanta is also famous for its thriving local restaurant culture. In the Westside Provisions District, the former meatpacking district, old meat factories have been transformed into amazing restaurants. At Bacchanalia, chefs Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison prepare light fare with strong flavors. It’s one of the top 20 restaurants in the country.
In Buckhead, Bistro Niko is a favorite. Its menu features fabulous steak tartare, endive salad and stunning French brasserie-style food.
Virginia-Highland, which has many great restaurants and bars, has been voted the best walkable neighborhood in Atlanta. Many movies and TV shows are shot around the city, so you might spot celebrities as you dine and enjoy live music.
Kevin Gillespie from the cooking TV show “Top Chef” runs a nontraditional restaurant called Gunshow in Glenwood Park. The décor is rustic cool, and the open kitchen allows diners to watch the action. The restaurant has no menu; instead, each chef personally brings his culinary creations from table to table, dim sum style.
Buford Highway is lined with scores of ethnic restaurants. Observe the many cultures and taste a variety of dishes.
In Bohemian Little Five Points, funky, locally owned eateries are sprinkled in among second-hand stores. At The Vortex, indulge in one of their famous burgers, named one of the best in the United States.
Midtown Atlanta exudes modern sophistication in its many bars, restaurants, nightclubs and lounges. Other nightlife districts are spread out in Buckhead and other neighborhoods.
