On the southeastern coast of Florida, weather is ideal year-round in Palm Beach County, making lazing on the 72 kilometers of beach absolute perfection.

But beyond the beach, Palm Beach also offers 42,000 diverse arts and cultural events throughout the year, with enough variety to suit anyone’s taste. On my recent visit, I had the chance to explore this never-ending array of cultural attractions and entertainment.

Whitehall at the Flagler Museum

Built in 1902, Whitehall was originally Henry Flagler’s palatial residence. It later became the Flagler, one of Florida’s first museums and an important symbol of American history and cultural sophistication. You can explore the world-class exhibitions and 75 opulent rooms. For a special treat, enjoy afternoon tea in the museum’s Café des Beaux Arts or take in an intimate chamber concert in the music room.

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach has been a center for Japanese arts and culture since opening in 1977. It features unique and educational exhibits that change throughout the year, providing insight into traditional Japanese culture. You can watch a customary tea ceremony, listen to Japanese Taiko drumming, spend time relaxing and rejuvenating while strolling around the beautiful gardens, or explore the renowned bonsai collection.

World-Class Performing Arts

Taking in a performance of the Palm Beach Opera  at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is another must-do while visiting the area. Each year, several world-class operas are performed, many with nationally and internationally recognized stars. I was lucky enough to take in a presentation of Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville,” which I thoroughly enjoyed.

An evening at the ballet is also in order in Palm Beach County. The Miami City Ballet, with a repertoire of 98 ballets, performs regularly in West Palm Beach.

The Society of the Four Arts

Definitely don’t miss a visit to the extraordinary Society of the Four Arts, a nonprofit organization established to encourage the cultural growth of the community. It includes a library, children’s library, and peaceful sculpture and botanical gardens. You can view art exhibits, hear notable guest speakers, attend informational seminars or enjoy first-rate concerts throughout the year.

Amazing Art at the Street Painting Festival

I was fortunate to visit while the Street Painting Festival in downtown Lake Worth was taking place. It’s an amazing festival with the downtown streets covered in chalk paintings. You can browse the art, listen to open-air concerts and enjoy tasty treats. I loved the joyful atmosphere and enjoyed viewing the technically brilliant art, including one of a 3D Oscar red carpet, where attendees had pictures taken. It was an incredible experience.
