Sevierville, Tennessee’s Attractions and Accommodation

By Heiko Obermoeller

The best way to start a visit to Sevierville, Tennessee: Go see the Dolly Parton statue in front of the historic courthouse. The country music legend was born in Sevierville, and she maintains close ties to the city. Then we’re off on a thrilling tour to see plenty of attractions and fascinating nature.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

After we’ve taken our picture with Dolly’s bronze statue, we’re drawn to the beautiful nature which surrounds the city. Sevierville is located close to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most-visited national park in the U.S.

We visit Newfound Gap first. Here, President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the park to the public in 1940. A small line on the floor marks the border with the neighbouring state of North Carolina. We also run into hikers who are trekking the famed Appalachian Trail, a “super-trail” which runs from Georgia to Maine for more than 2,000 miles. Some hikers we talk to are attempting to hike the entire length of the trail! Others simply hike parts of it for shorter lengths of time.

The Titanic Museum

The attraction we visit on the next morning is visible from afar. Directly on the street, a huge model of the Titanic emerges, home of the Titanic Museum. At the entrance, actors in historic costumes hand out tickets which have the names of original Titanic passengers on them. Inside, there’s not only original pieces from the actual Titanic including a Bible, the whole museum is interactive and gives a great and intense impression of life on board the ship, as well as its dramatic sinking. You will find a real iceberg in here, and you can put your hands in 28 degree Fahrenheit water, the temperature which the water was when the ship sank. It’s almost impossible to believe that anyone survived this catastrophic event.

Shopping and Luxurious Accommodation

Not far from the Titanic Museum, we visit the Tanger Five Oaks Outlets, where we browse more than 100 shops with designer brands and fantastic prices. Many of the most popular outlet stores are represented here, including Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, Disney, Michael Kors, J. Crew and many more.

To stay overnight in Sevierville, we’ve chosen a cosy and rather luxurious place. The award-winning Oak Haven Resort and Spa offers many cabins, all of them with an open fireplace and hot tub on the terrace. Sitting on our balcony, we enjoy the sunset over the vast Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the end of a perfect day in Sevierville.

Sevierville offers beautiful nature and quite a number of attractions, and if you’re on the way to Nashville or Memphis, it’s the perfect stop!
