The Palm Beaches: Hidden Gems in Luxurious Florida

By Heiko Obermoeller

Offering sunshine all year round and a relaxed vacation vibe, The Palm Beaches, Florida, almost automatically comes to mind as a must-visit destination. The many options to shop, dine, explore the beaches and take in the exciting attractions create an inviting atmosphere that leaves no wish unfulfilled for an unforgettable dream holiday. But The Palm Beaches are also the embodiment of an authentic Florida experience, and here are my top picks for the area’s best hidden gems!

Ann Norton Sculpture Garden

This area of Florida gets a lot of attention for the beaches and shopping, but for an artsy afternoon, I highly recommend checking out the Ann Norton Sculpture Garden in West Palm Beach. When the sky is cloudless and the sun is shining, walk among the beautifully manicured gardens and enjoy the unique garden sculptures of this hidden gem.

The nine outdoor sculptures are the work of Ann Weaver Norton in honor of her husband, Ralph Norton, who founded the art gallery on the property. Be sure to browse Ann’s indoor art studio as well – very impressive. I highly recommend taking a formal tour, as the tour guides are very knowledgeable and will really bring this unique property to life for you.

Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum

If you want an insider’s view of the water, take a tour of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. Start in the museum to learn about 5,000 years of history, including the Native Americans and Western explorers who all played a role in the history of this area. Pay a small admission fee for a tour, and the guide will give you a history lesson on this coral-colored structure and its buildings. Then, climb the lighthouse! Please note that children must be at least 48 inches tall to climb, so keep that in mind before you come. I was amazed to learn that the lighthouse has been active since 1860, which is amazing when you realize that is 155 years!

If you still have some stamina after your climb, it’s worth the time to hike the trail on the north side of Beach Road. There is a wonderful observation tower overlooking a manatee refuge. What a great discovery!

Guanabanas in Jupiter

Nighttime has come and it’s time for some fun. The northern part of The Palm Beaches are home to one of my top insider´s tips for going out: Guanabanas in Jupiter. In keeping with the summery atmosphere of the region, Guanabanas is tastefully surrounded by palm trees and decorated in a tropical style. The bar is one of the most beautiful places in the region to enjoy a cocktail, listen to live Caribbean music and enjoy the warm rays of the setting sun.

The opportunities to go out and have fun all around The Palm Beaches are truly endless. To me, it’s one of the most beautiful areas, offering everything for a dream vacation under Florida’s sun!
