Natural Beauty and Urban Appeal in Boulder, Colorado

By Hitomi Farrell

Located less than an hour northwest of Denver, Boulder, Colorado, is an all-in-one destination where great nature and urban excitement come together in perfect harmony.

Biking Along Boulder Creek Path

A great way to get to know the city and the surrounding nature is to start with a bike ride on the Boulder Creek Path, a five-and-a-half mile recreational path along Boulder Creek. You can bike, walk, skate or stop to read a book and take in the scenery on one of the benches. The creek is also a popular place to go tubing in the summer. Some people even sunbathe along the creek. This well-maintained trail highlights how much Boulder values a healthy lifestyle and clean, open spaces.

Chautauqua Park for Hiking Fans

Avid hikers and beginners alike should definitely plan on tackling some of the hiking trails in Chautauqua Park. It’s such an exhilarating experience: breathing in the clean, fresh Colorado air with the picturesque mountains in the background. You won’t even feel tired. Stop by the ranger’s cottage for specific information about the park and which hiking trail to take. All of them offer a chance to get away from it all and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Another great tip is to stop at a store on your way to the park for a sandwich and drinks before hitting the trails. Chautauqua Park is an excellent place for a picnic, even if you’re not that interested in hiking. There’s also a historic dining hall on-site open year-round.

Shopping and Dining on Pearl Street

After a fun-filled day of outdoor adventure, you should take the opportunity to indulge a bit with some shopping and dining. Boulder offers a variety of shops and cuisine, but on Pearl Street, the stores and restaurants fill a vibrant and charming four block pedestrian street in the heart of Downtown Boulder. Covering 49 blocks in total, Downtown Boulder has something for everyone. After a long day of shopping, stop for some al fresco dining and enjoy a meal while watching the unique street performers.

Boulder’s Tea Culture

There is another one-of-a-kind aspect you might like when visiting Boulder: tea. For tea lovers, this town is truly an intriguing place. Boulder is the home of world-famous tea company, Celestial Seasonings, and the factory here offers free tours. After learning first-hand all about the facility and how Celestial Seasonings’ teas are made, you can sample all kinds of tea for free.

Another must-see is the gorgeous Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse alongside Boulder Creek, a gift from Boulder’s sister city Dushanbe, Tajikistan. It provides a truly a relaxing experience, and you will enjoy delicious food and afternoon tea inside this mesmerizing building with intricately hand-carved and hand-painted details.

Boulder, Colorado, has truly got it all: from hiking and biking in beautiful nature to fun-filled urban activities. You will not get bored in this lovely and highly recommended vacation destination.
